Bridging the Gap
Bridging the Gap project aims to bring together different communities and ages. Through the medium of an ICT project we plan to break the barriers of fear, misconceptions and mistrust between these different groups.
This Intergenerational Computer Project will provide basic ICT skills for the elderly generation. The project is delivered by young people allowing them to share their computer skills and pass on transferable skills to the elderly generation, directly impacting on the lives of both groups through developing respect and knowledge; this in turn will enable the young people to learn from the elderly generation.
The project approach will help to bridge this gap as both generations converse and learn from each other. The young people are screened for suitability, upon acceptance a profile is created of their skills and personal interests so that the elder generation can be matched based on individual preferences. An individual tracking form will track the quantifiable benefits highlighting the learning outcomes.
