New Dawn Day Service
New Dawn is a day service for people with learning disabilities and/or complex needs, offering a diverse array of opportunities, which enables people to be in charge of their own personal development and progression, each person chooses their own individual timetable.
Through supporting individuals to participate in various community activities, New Dawn aims to build confidence, encourage positive inclusion and a sense of community and friendship whilst enjoying stimulating mind and body experiences. In presenting the vital opportunity to meet with other people and embrace new encounters the individuals are empowered to live life to the full.
New dawn is open 52 weeks of the year excluding Bank Holidays. All the members are encouraged to access courses provided by Tower Hamlets Life Long Learning at the Idea Stores throughout the borough gaining life skills to promote greater independence.
The centre provides qualified tutors for numerous pursuits; samba, yoga, music, choir, arts and crafts, literacy and numeracy, all activities are tailored to the individuals requirements. Individuals are supported to attend regular sessions at local leisure centres such as Disability Sports, swimming, hydrotherapy, Urban Gym, Rebound Therapy and other organised sporting events throughout the borough.
New Dawn users work in collusion with University of East London, piloting many projects for people with disabilities in providing suitable accessibility in public buildings such as museums and universities. Through our Mencap affiliation our users are participating the Gateway award, using the activities as evidence of the skills they have gained and having achieved bronze level award they are in the process of attaining their silver level.
